With this election cycle, local, state, and national government officials campaign to work for the people. But what does this mean for our school?
Our school district has a Board of Education, working with the Superintendent to run the school system. The board makes decisions about finances, curriculum, school maintenance, and other subjects. These board members are elected and voted on each two years.
The board members for the last cycle were: Tom Mann - President, Chris Fegan - Vice-President, Rebecca Harvey - Secretary, Karen Rothfuss - Treasurer, Jeremy Koch - Trustee, Mike Austin - Trustee, and Michael Tindall - Trustee.
Four seats were up for election this year, in which Tom Mann, Chris Fegan, Jeremy Koch, and Karen Rothfuss will not seek re-election. From those four seats, Brandon Woods, Ryan Novess, Corey Horky, and Kody Naylor will fill those positions starting later this month. Vice-President Fegan, Trustee Koch, and Treasurer Rothfuss gave reflections at the December 21st Board of Education meeting - the last meeting with the current board members.
With 9,257 votes cast - in-person and absentee ballots - Brandon Woods had 2,215 votes, Ryan Novess had 1,996 votes, Corey Horky had 1,847 votes, Kody Naylor had 1,812 votes, and James Stewart, who was not elected, had 1,329 votes. Mr. Woods, Mr. Novess, Mr. Horky, and Mr. Naylor will take their oaths of office at the January 25th Board of Education meeting.
