Over the last couple of months, the Quiz Bowl team has been practicing in their goal of participating in the District Tournament.
But, what is Quiz Bowl? Quiz Bowl is another term for the Academia Team. They are asked questions about a variety of topics. There are JV and Varsity Teams, and four juniors and seniors are allowed to participate on the Varsity Team, and five sophomores and freshmen are allowed to “play” on the JV team.
This is how the matches go: there is a reader who reads the questions. There are questions called “toss-ups.” The first person to buzz in gets to answer the question. If they answer correctly, the team gets ten points, and moves on to the bonus questions. There are three bonus questions in the set. If the team answers any of those questions correctly, they get ten points per question. At the end of the twenty toss-up questions, the team with the most points wins the match.
Our Flying Dutchmen team participated in the tournament virtually, having different moderators hosting a Zoom session.
