My credentials include:

I have been an educator for 20 years with teaching experience in preschool, K12, and college learning environments. I have worked with North Carolina State University and with the Department of Social Services as a Child Protective Services Investigator. I have experience as an Early Interventionist providing teleplay therapy for children and families. I taught education courses with the North Carolina Community College System for over 18 years. Education is my passion!

Hello, I am Mrs. Vick. My philosophy of teaching is founded on the belief that learning is an active process. I also believe that both the educator and learner have a responsibility in that process. As I reflect on my beliefs regarding teaching specifically, I find that my role as the educator has four essential components:

Following this mindset and these basic principles helped me grow in my love for both teaching and learning. I have discovered that, by being intentional, using these principles with enthusiasm, self-awareness, and empathy, along with sharing my ‘passion’ for teaching and learning, this all connects with learners. My experience has also been that teaching with intentionality, self-awareness, empathy, and passion, effectively impacts learners, ultimately connecting them to their ‘passion’ and developing them into successful learners and professionals.

Fun Facts:

While I have a few credentials, I am most honored to be a wife and mother of three. I have been married to my best friend for 18 years. We have three children ages 15, 12 and 10. This allows for both professional and personal perspectives of situations faced by the children and families that we work with.

I enjoy staying busy and serving in the community. I have research interest in the area of social, emotional, and mental illness and the impacts of the Covid pandemic on young children. I have received some "air-time" when I was invited to share my interest as a guest speaker for a radio show in Eastern North Carolina.
