What Do 4th Graders Learn in the Library?
In 4th grade, the library is a place where curiosity leads the way! Students learn to ask thoughtful “why” questions and use research and problem-solving skills to explore the world around them. They discover how to find information in books, online, and other resources to help them learn more about topics they care about.
In 4th grade, the library is a place where students grow as readers, creators, and leaders! They enhance their reading skills through Battle of the Books, a fun competition where they work in teams to recall key details from books they've read, improving their memory and comprehension.
4th graders also take on leadership roles as "kindergarten coaches". They guide younger students in exploring books, learning library routines, and sharing their excitement for reading. This role helps them develop important leadership and communication skills.
Tech skills are a big part of 4th grade library learning. Students practice introductory keyboarding, becoming faster and more accurate with their typing. They use Google tools like Google Docs to write and collaborate, and Google Slides to create presentations and share ideas. They also start learning about media literacy, understanding how to identify reliable sources of information and navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
In the Makerspace, 4th graders get hands-on with creativity and problem-solving. They build with materials like LEGOs, make art, or even experiment with simple machines, using their imagination and teamwork to bring their ideas to life.
The library supports 4th graders in becoming confident readers, tech-savvy learners, creative thinkers, and inspiring leaders.
