Packing Grocery Packages - Tuesdays

Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm: Energetic volunteers are needed to help sort/bag fresh produce and carry bags of produce and previously packed non-perishables to stations. IMPORTANT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to 35 lbs., standing continuously, outdoor/comfortable clothing. DIRECTIONS: Enter the property using Windham Lane and report to the gym entrance adjacent to the parking lot.

Volunteer / Assistant at Roberto Clemente Middle School (for after school programs)

Work with and become a Companion at after hours programs at Roberto Clement MS. All assignments provide training, the opportunity to work with children, and the chance to enhance leadership ability.

Activity will start on Sept. 27

Grab & Go Distributions

Volunteers will open food pallets, package food into bags, load bags into car trucks, tear-down/setup.

Masks required and must bring gloves.

All activities are done outdoors and socially distant.

Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.

Create your own original letter of encouragement to share to residents in nursing homes. You can create poems, letters, drawing, and short stories.

Music and Stories of Cheer for Seniors


  1. Make a Video of you Music Performance for YouTube Playlist (1 hour of SSL per video)

  2. Virtual Live Concerts (1.5 hour of SSL credit)

  3. Learn a song to play for seniors upon your return in the Fall (1 hour of SSL credit per song)

  4. Reading Express Video Library (1 hour of SSL credit per video)

  5. Composer's Circle (1/2 SSL credit per half hour class)

Packing Non-Perishable Groceries - Thursdays

Volunteers pack non-perishable items in grocery bags and store them for drive-in distribution the following week. This activity takes place on Thursdays in the gymnasium at Hughes United Methodist Church (10700 Georgia Ave, Wheaton, MD 20902). Volunteer shifts are 2 hours long (10 am - 12 pm and 1pm - 3pm). Some standing and lifting is involved, but volunteers may sit to complete their work. Please wear comfortable attire. Enter the property using Windham Lane and report to the gym entrance adjacent to the parking lot.
