2024-2025 math pathway

The goal of the Mathematics Department at Briggs Chaney is to provide students with a solid foundation in mathematics, an appreciation for the discipline, and the preparation necessary for future math classes.  Students are challenged and motivated by courses that require creative and critical thinking skills, persistence, collaboration, and communication skills to achieve academic success. Through the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Illustrative Mathematics/Learn Zillion, and MCPS Mathematics Curriculum 2.0 (C2.0), teachers strive to develop students who value mathematics and see it as useful with respect to solving problems and making sense of the world.  Students learn to work collaboratively and express their understanding in multiple ways in order to develop and demonstrate a deep understanding of mathematics.  Teachers are implementing the CCSS Standards of Mathematical Practices (SMPs), which exemplify the definition of deep understanding of mathematics.
