January 10, 2019 - The Redistricting Committee met. The committee discussed data related to overcrowding in Christiansburg and three options that would help alleviate overcrowding. The committee reached consensus that the best option for Phase 1 of redistricting would be to move approximately 150 students who live in the Smith Creek and Mudpike areas to Falling Branch Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year. The recommendation will be presented at the Feb. 5th School Board meeting. Parents will receive letters so that they are aware of the proposal and of upcoming Board meetings. Work will begin on Phase II at the next meeting.

Proposed Bus Routes to Move to FBES (Option 3)

November 27, 2018 - The Redistricting Committee met. A presentation and timeline were provided. The committee also reviewed a planning block map.

October 16, 2018 - A Timeline of Study for the redistricting process and and a list of Redistricting criteria were presented to the School Board.

October 9, 2018 - Letters go home with CES/CPS families announcing the redistricting process.

2014-2018 - MCPS worked with community partners to gather input on building needs in Christiansburg. The expansion of Falling Branch Elementary and the plan to build a new, larger elementary school in the Belview area creates more room for students at both schools. Moving some students from CPS/CES to these schools will alleviate overcrowding at CPS/CES.
