Support transition planning through the IEP (Individual Education Plan) process that ensures the relevance of each student’s academic and vocational coursework to his/her needs as an adult; provide community work experiences for high school students with IEPs in exploratory community job sites countywide; increase the work readiness skills of middle and high school students with IEPs, thus leading to unsubsidized employment while in high school or after graduation; and prepare youth for a successful transition to advanced post-secondary career training and long-term employment options. For more information on WA objectives, district-in-kind responsibilities & funding, click here for our WorkAbility Overview.
This application is for use by the WA/TPP Teacher only. Students are eligible for paid work experience beginning their junior year of high school. Each year, the WA teacher is given an approved number of students who can be placed in the community for a specific number of work hours for the school year. This is based on the total work experience budget available in the grant, projected placements of juniors and seniors at the site, and the site's past placement history and utilization of funding.
For the 2025-26 year, approved students will have 30 hours through the WA grant that will be utilized first; if they are also TPP, they are eligible for 120 additional hours through a DOR authorization request process that must be in place before the hours can be used at the worksite.
Students can work up to 15 hours per week and cannot work exclusively on weekends.
Each WA/TPP teacher is responsible for the following:
Submit a completed work experience application with signatures required from the student, parent, teacher, and worksite supervisor;
