Graduate Medical Education Description
McLaren Oakland’s Department of Graduate Medical Education stands by its mission to provide residents the skills, knowledge and aptitudes that they need to provide patients safe, high value, and cost conscientious care in the primary and specialty health care services. Founded in 1953, McLaren Oakland has expanded to over 328 beds and multiple satellite facilities; including over 300 teaching faculty committed to educating our residents. McLaren Oakland has a very robust community of medical students, residents and physicians who work closely with interdisciplinary teams to integrate the values of integrity, excellence, diversity and intelligence in order to serve the patients and families in our community.
Diverse, challenging opportunities are available through the graduate medical education programs at McLaren Oakland. McLaren Oakland combines the holistic heritage of osteopathic medicine with progressive ACGME accredited graduate programs and practical patient care experiences.
McLaren Oakland is a primary member of the Statewide Campus System of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), setting consistent, high-quality academic standards for training physicians.
All internship and residency programs are approved by the ACGME, or the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. Residency programs meet the requirements for specialty board certification. Every applicant is selected on the basis of academic and personal qualifications regardless of race, sex, color, religion, national origin or marital status.
McLaren Oakland is a modern, fully equipped acute care facility, which offers an outstanding range of opportunities for the progressive medical student, intern, and resident. The highly acclaimed Emergency Department receives over 35,000 visits annually and is recognized as one of the top trauma centers in the State of Michigan.
The medical staff at McLaren Oakland takes great pride in providing broad-based educational opportunities. The full-time medical staff represents 45 clinical specialties and subspecialties. More than 1,000 employees, including over 400 nursing personnel, provide skilled clinical and technical support. Committed to its strong heritage in medical education, McLaren Oakland looks forward to meeting the academic, practical, and personal needs of future physicians.
