A message from Mrs Clark
Dear Families,
I want to express our sincere gratitude to our incredible pupils, dedicated staff, supportive parents, and our wider school community for your cooperation and engagement during our Section 8 Ofsted inspection last week.
We were pleased with how the process unfolded, and appreciated the opportunity to showcase the hard work and commitment that makes our school such a thriving learning environment. I was incredibly proud to hear our pupils engaging with the inspector with confidence and positivity.
I look forward to receiving the official report soon and will share the findings with you all as soon as it is available. Thank you once again for your ongoing support!
As the term draws to a close we say a fond farewell to Mrs Boorer. We thank her for her hard work and commitment to the school, and wish her all the best. We have shared the Term 6 timetable for Y2 on the class whiteboard, please take a look.
Finally, recognition for the Y6 cohort who this week took their SATs. I was impressed with not only the hard work of the pupils in the run up to the tests, but the confidence, positivity and resilience shown. A huge thanks to Miss Francis and the team who prepared the pupils not only academically but also emotionally for this.
Warm wishes,
Mrs Clark
Headteacher
Reminders
Any leftover lost property at the end of term 6 will be bagged up and taken to charity. The box is located outside the hall, so please have a look through when you are passing. We will also try to put it out on the playground at drop-off and pick-up.
Please ensure that any animals tied up on the Cuckoo Trail during school drop-off and pick-up times are situated away from the main path to prevent obstruction and ensure the safety of all users.
Thank you!
Thank you to Mr Johnson and Mrs Watt for their hard work removing the old play area floor, and to Jon (Miss Taylor's husband) for his time and power tools removing the concrete! We are looking forward to commencing the next stage of this project.

Remembering Aaron
It's hard to believe a year has passed since we lost Aaron. For those of us who knew him during his time at the school, this week brings with it a wave of memories. We remember his infectious enthusiasm and kind smile. Though he is deeply missed, the impression he had on our school community remains. Let's take a moment this week to remember Aaron and the lasting impact he made on so many of us.

This week we went on a trip to Heathfield Library. We caught a bus from outside the school and were very excited when most of us could sit on the top deck. We then got to explore the books in the library. Suzy, the librarian, read us some very funny stories before we got collected.
We were able to explore the different types of books and activities that are available in the library. We also got to hear about the summer reading challenge. Thank you to all the adults that were able to support on the trip!
We have also gained five new class pets! We have five caterpillars in the classroom and we are very much looking forward to seeing them become butterflies.

In Year One we have been very lucky to complete our outdoor learning with Mr Townsend. We all really liked looking at the creatures, getting to work outdoors and getting to climb the special ladder!
In our normal lessons we have been starting to get year two ready. We have been doing whole class maths lessons, the teachers are so proud of how well we have been doing with this change. We are still enjoying getting to do our active learning after break time especially because we are now outside on the decking too!
Ask us all about Pirates because we are becoming experts!

Year 2
Year 2 have had a wonderful Term 5, including a new place for our whiteboard. Mrs. Evans has joined us on Thursdays which is brilliant! We have been on a trip to the Shipwreck Museum in Hastings - it was really interesting. We did some amazing beach art too. In Maths we are learning about fractions. English is all about The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch and books by Benji Davis. We are comparing Kenya and Horam - we all agreed that there are no wildebeests roaming along the High Street. Starting swimming has been great too. We heard about what is was like during World War 2 - it must have been very different.

Year 3
Another busy couple of weeks in Year 3! On Tuesday 29th April, Rachel from High Weald Heroes came to visit and this time she helped us with our mapping skills. As you can see, we enjoyed mapping the playground using the correct symbols.
As a grand finale to our Anglo Saxon topic, today we made honey oat cakes and butter, using ingredients available at the time. Many thanks to our parent helpers - we couldn't have done it without you!
Year 4
At the end of term 4 we completed our art unit on textiles. We created our pieces by painting calico fabric and then adding texture by sewing stitches onto it.
In the first week of term 5 we completed our sponsored swim. All the adults were very impressed with our determination and resilience. Well done, Year 4!
We went on a Stone Age Welly Walk with Rachel from the High Weald. We explored the evidence of Stone Age people in our local area and had a go at building shelters (and testing whether they were water proof!). It turns our we were not very good at it and the brave testers got pretty wet! We also gave string making a go by scraping bramble branches with pieces of flint. It proved to us how challenging Stone Age life must have been.
Year 5 have had an actioned packed term so far. From a sponsored swim, bikeability, Tag Rugby tournament, start of swimming lessons and enrichment Fridays as well as a visit from Doctor Kim Twinn to show how to disseminate and identify parts of a flower.
In Bikeability, all children achieved level 2 in road cyling. Level 2 teaches children how to grow more confident with each turn of the pedal. Well done to you all.
Sporting News:
Children from Years 5 & 6 took part in the Heathfield Area Tag Rugby Tournament in April. Team A came 2nd overall and team B came 3rd. It was an exciting tournament and all the children performed brilliantly.
On Tuesday 13th May, Year 5 had a visit from Doctor Kim Twinn who showed the children how to identify flower parts. Doctor Twinn demonstrated this by getting the children to disseminate a flower each and separating the major parts including petals, sepals, stamen, and pistil.

What a busy term we've been having!
This term, we have been busy preparing for our SATs. Many children attended our very popular 'SATs Booster' sessions on Thursdays after school. It was amazing to see so many children developing their independent study skills and these will come in use as they move on to secondary school and beyond!
During learning time, we have been doing Kahoot quizzes for revision, working in pairs to answer questions to revise. Another revision highlight for the children was when Miss Francis and Mrs Delves covered the desks in masking tape to revisit how to use a protractor to measure angles!
We have also had a visit from the RNLI. Some of the things that they covered were: how to identify a beach lifeguard; explain the meaning of the beach flags; identify hazards on a beach and in the water and what to do if they get into difficulty or see someone else in difficulty at the beach or in the water.

English News
We have enjoyed some more visits from Dr Kim Twinn this term. This time she came and worked with Year 1 to explore the school habitat and identify some of the many living things present on the school grounds.
While in Year 5 she talked about the plant life cycle and the children carried out a flower dissection to identify the parts of the flower involved in pollination and fertilisation.
There is an opportunity for the children to enter a poster competition for the South of England Show. Full details below or from the website
https://www.seas.org.uk/countryside-learning/schools-competition/
I will be collecting the entries from those who want to take part in the last week of term so I can laminate and send them off in time Thursday 22nd May is the latest I can accept entries to send off for you.
