Reminders
Any leftover lost property at the end of term 6 will be bagged up and taken to charity. The box is located outside the hall, so please have a look through when you are passing. We will also try to put it out on the playground at drop-off and pick-up.
With the the lovely warm weather continuing, we want to remind everyone to please send their child to school with the following items on hot and sunny days:
A named sun hat for protection during outdoor play.
Sunscreen already applied before they arrive. You are also welcome to send in a named bottle of sunscreen for your child to reapply themselves if they are able to.
A named water bottle filled with water. We will have water available for children to refill their bottles throughout the day.
These simple steps will help to ensure all our children are safe, comfortable, and ready to learn and play in the sunshine.
Thank you for your cooperation.

On the last week of term 5 we had an online Kindness Workshop from the charity 52 Lives (www.52-lives.org) and their School of Kindness! We learned that kindness has three qualities – being friendly, generous and considerate. We learnt about the science of kindness and the positive impact it has on our physical and mental health. Next, we practised empathy by watching videos of kindness in action and then said kind things to each other in the classroom. To put our kindness into action, we thought of someone we knew who could do with a little kindness. We then made them something in our classrooms and plan to give it to them this week. Finally, we looked at the quote ‘be the change that you want to see in the world’ and decided that we can help to create the kind of world we want to live in. The School of Kindness has a Kids’ Club which is free to join where you will get a free newsletter with kind challenges, stories, activities, jokes, competitions and videos to watch. Just visit www.schoolofkindness.org/kids-club to sign up.
PICTURE NEWS
This term has only just begun and we have been so busy! Sports day practises, learning about castles, reading stories about dragons and releasing the butterflies that we have watch grow from caterpillars. We even saw one of our butterflies flying around during break time.
We also finished last term with a visit from some creepy crawlies. The children enjoyed being able to see the insects. They said the cockroach was very loud!
Now the weather is getting warmer the children are choosing to remove their jumpers. Please could you just double check that the jumper is clearly named and has not washed out in the wash! This will help us return the jumper to the correct person. Thank you!

Reception Class teacher
In Year One we have begun learning about our local area. We talked about some of the features we might find and what we like and don't like about the area. We decided that we loved the amount of farm land near us so we have been focusing on this during our English writing too.
We have also been working super hard at our phonics and have amazed everyone with our screening tests results!
Over the next few weeks we will be looking into the local area even more and hopefully we will get to do some cooking!

Year 2
This term, Year 2 are very excited about their STEMterprise project involving growing our own ingredients to create homemade pizza! So far, we have designed a logo for their pizza restaurant and reviewed their understanding of food chains. Next week, we are going to be planting basil as a seasoning for our pizzas.
In English, we are writing about a magical portal and where it could possibly take us. We came up with lots of different ideas and enjoyed publishing them as doorways.
Mrs Evans
Year Two Class Teacher
Welcome back to our final term in Year 3! The last few weeks of last term were extremely busy and culminated in our school trip to Wakehurst. The weather was glorious and the children had a great time dissecting flowers and looking at them under the microscope, just like proper scientists. We then went on a pollinator trail and were delighted to see some geese with their goslings as well. All in all, a super day out!
This term, we have been creating leaflets to encourage others to visit Wakehurst. We thought carefully about the best bits of our trip and did some research about other aspects of the place. Then, we used commands and modal verbs to persuade visitors to go. As you can see, we were very successful!

Year 4
What a busy start to the last term of Year 4! We enjoyed a visit with Young at Heart where we played Bingo! We helped the residents fill in their bingo sheets and then shared our books with them.
We also began our work towards achieving our John Muir award by going to discover and explore our special place - the fields, woodlands and meadows close to our school and within the High Weald AONB. We looked for wildflowers on those fields and in class, began writing a poem about our chosen wildflower.
In the first week we have also split into Farming STEMterprise groups and came up with names for our businesses. We cannot wait to share the results of our work during the sale on 10th July!
Rye Watersports
Year 5 visited Rye Watersports Activity Centre this week for a day of fun filled water activities. The qualified instructors were on hand throughout and introduced the children to a range of new and exciting water-based skills.
The children were taught how to wind surf, to sail a dingy and to kayak. All children accessed all activities, with a lot of falling in and splashing around as part of the training. The children demonstrated great resilience and perseverance throughout. We are very proud of them all.
Miss Lacey
Year 5 class teacher
A busy start to term 6 in Year 6! With only a few weeks left of our time at Maynards Green, we had our rehearsals for the play and we are looking forward to getting started with learning our lines and then songs.
We have been enjoying the return of the Friday maths investigations and we worked well in pairs to complete them.
This term in PE, we have been learning the rules of rounders and preparing for Sports Day.

Reading Shed
I am delighted to announce the arrival of our outdoor reading shed! Positioned in the small playground, the shed will provide books and a place to sit to enjoy quiet reading at lunchtimes. We are very grateful to the FRIENDS who kindly provided the funds for this wonderful resource for the school, which will give so much pleasure to the children over the coming years. Thank you!
Miss Taylor - English Lead
We have been enjoying watching the live cameras on BBC iPlayer Springwatch during lessons and assemblies.
They have shown the children the changes that take place for animals including birds and mammals during the season.
All the episodes are available to view on BBC iPlayer and they are a great opportunity to see science in real life contexts.
I would suggest viewing it with them or beforehand as sometimes nature can be a little brutal.
Year 4 have had a great opportunity to hear a talk about teeth from Julie Langdon, retired dentist and chair of governors.
The children were shocked that a pack of raisins has more sugar than a can of coke and explored a range of different teeth in her collection!
They also enjoyed looking at a selection of animal skulls and how their teeth varied depending upon their diet.
It's always lovely to hear how the children are inspired to develop their science at home. Please feel free to email me.
Many thanks,
Mrs A
