Maui County Regional Science & Engineering Fair

The Maui County Regional Science and Engineering Fair encourages all students in grades 6-12 from across Maui County to engage in real world scientific inquiry and research by participating in the science fair. The science fair is a unique platform for Maui County's students to interweave Common Core State Standards in literacy and mathematics with the Next Generation Science and Engineering Standards.

Participating in the science fair empowers students to self choose, design, research, conduct, and implement their projects. This process teaches students to acquire and analyze information, to tackle locally based and global issues, to provide solutions, and to apply the latest technologies. Engaging in research projects provides students with opportunities to work with local educational institutions, be mentored by various professors, industry partners, and local scientists and engineers while gaining the satisfaction of knowing their efforts are contributing toward improving life on their island, in Maui County, and in the State of Hawaii.

A main component of participation in science and engineering fairs is the opportunity for students to enhance their awareness of viable STEM career and occupational opportunities by presenting their inquiry projects before MCRSEF judges from a variety of STEM technological and engineering companies, as well as, universities and educational institutions. For advancing regional projects, students may also have the opportunity to present their research to Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair and International Science and Engineering Fair judges. Students meet and learn from STEM professionals, engineers, and professors as they defend their research.

By participating in the Maui County Regional Science and Engineering Fair, students will learn more than just completing a science fair project.  They will also learn about critical life skills: teamwork, problem solving, time management, and effective communication. Likewise, students will learn that innovation is needed to solve global issues.
