Our Classroom

Here at MCS, our foundations are faith, family, and community. We believe that children learn best through play, so all classroom centers and materials are set up with a specific purpose, using the Nine Domains of the Vermont Early Learning Standards as guidelines. The following content areas are taught through monthly themes, using both whole-group instruction and independent exploration during Centers:

  • Literacy- literacy concepts and skills are taught through books and alphabet games during whole-group instruction, and children are given opportunities to practice letter formation and writing during Centers. In Preschool, we focus on identifying the letters of the alphabet and recognizing their corresponding sounds.

  • Math- math is taught through the use of games and activities that focus on shape identification, patterns, measuring, sorting, one-to-one correspondence, and counting.

  • Science- by engaging in simple, hands-on activities, the children are introduced to science concepts in areas such as meteorology, biology, chemistry and physics.

Art and music are also frequently used in the classroom to help facilitate learning and expand the children's creativity.

In addition to classroom activities, the children are able to participate in daily specials, such as:

  • Physical Education

  • Music

  • Art
