Traffic at MAST@FIU

Last year getting in and out of school wasn't a problem for most; it was a quick process. However, now that all MAST@FIU students attend school physically and ATM and David Lawernce, which are the neighboring schools, means that traffic is significantly worse. Both students and parents complain about the traffic and how long it takes to leave the school area. The general consensus is that it usually takes 30 to 40 minutes to leave the school. Although all we can do now is wait for new roads to be built or some other measures to take place, there are still some tips and tricks to avoid the traffic.
Enter your car as soon as possible!
This might seem like an obvious thing to say, but getting on the road before everyone else is an excellent way to avoid the traffic. You have to remember that MAST@FIU is at the end of the street, which means that cars from ATM and David Lawrence will always be in front of you. However, it’s still good to be slightly ahead, even if it is just a couple of spots forward.

Wait for the traffic to clear.
Instead of being the first to go, you can always stay after school and wait for the traffic to clear up. Why stay in traffic for 40 minutes when you can wait the same amount of time doing something else? By then, the traffic will have already cleared up. If you’re worried that you’ll have nothing to do during that time, don’t be. Students often go to the FIU campus, which is a very close walk from our campus. At FIU, you can eat at Chick-Fil-A, socialize with friends, play 8-pool, and much more.
Get picked up somewhere else.
If the other two tips didn’t appeal to you, what you can do is get picked up away from the campus. Students can walk, skate, bike, etc., down the street and get picked up near Costco. That way, the person picking you up doesn’t have to stand in traffic for so long. If you drive your car and park near the campus, this tip doesn’t apply to you.

Student Opinions on the Traffic:
Marko Desnica (Sophomore)- “It’s horrible; I can’t get out into Biscayne before 3:30. They blocked off the other exit for no reason.”
Carlos Lopez (Sophomore)- “In my opinion, if you leave instantly after school ends, you’ll be backed up in traffic for like an hour. But if you wait until like 3:30 to get picked up, you’ll be able to leave easily. It makes no sense how they have three schools in the strip with only one way of entering and exiting.”
Jacob Martinez (Sophomore)- “All kids want to do when they leave school is to go home and having to sit in another hour of traffic is horrendous especially considering the homework we have to do when we get home. If there was a faster way to get out onto Biscayne, then we could get home much faster and be much more productive.”
