Below you will find information on :
Touch typing is a method of typing without the use of the sense of sight, or simply by feeling the keyboard. However, the sense of touch is only slightly involved since this typing method is governed by muscle memory through rigorous training with the proper typing method. This way, the fingers get so used to typing that they instinctively go to the appropriate keys without the typist needing to see or even feel around the keyboard.
The students are taught touch typing in media class. Below are a few sites which may help keep your students typing skills in shape over the summer (or really anytime).
The important items to stress with touch typing at this level (3rd grade and up) are:
1) Do not look at the keyboard.
2) Accuracy of finger placement is much more important than WPM (speed).
One of the simplest ways to help students remember where to click, is to put a sticker on the mouse. All of our mice have a smiley face sticker on the left mouse button, and are taught to click on the sticker.
We also talk a lot about clicking and double clicking. Clicking is when we click once to select something, double clicking is when we click two times to open something. At first double clicking can be difficult for them, so we discuss the Little Ceaser's guy's saying "Pizza, Pizza" and compare that to the speed they need to double click.
