What happens?
A taxi is driving along a country lane. A child in the car spots some sheep in the road and calls out a warning to the driver. The driver swerves and the car overturns.
How to edit this scene
You need to edit the scene so that it flows smoothly and all the action only happens once, rather than being repeated. It’s supposed to be exciting, so you need to select only the parts of the clips that will help you tell your story. You may need to use some of the shots more than once. Import the clips into you editing program (there are only 6)
Select your shots
Start by selecting the parts of the clips you want to use and putting them in order. Don’t use C04 yet. Play the sequence to check that it makes sense.
Adjusting your edits
Watch your edits. Are they exciting enough? It’s better if you edit on the action. So you should cut between shots C01 and C02 while the car is turning over, not before or after.
If the action seems to be repeated you will need to adjust the edits.
Once you are happy with the sequence, you can add part of shot C04 as a cutaway. This means changing the picture without changing the sound.
You can also try
• using slow-motion
• deliberately repeating the action
• adding dramatic music
