Procrastination, typically defined as the postponement and delay of work, is one of the most common habits that many students struggle with. Rather than completing their work right away, people tend to put it aside to hang out with friends or do a more enjoyable activity. People resort to procrastination if they’re bored, already stressed, overwhelmed, or even confident that they could get their work done quickly later on. However, procrastination only provides you with a temporary relief from workloads. It often leads to more stress and frustration that could’ve been avoided. Staying on task and being productive can make things much more manageable. It may take a lot of work and motivation, but it is important to try and stray away from procrastination and other bad habits that may harm your work ethic.
Procrastination can cause you to waste so much energy and time on less important tasks. You may think back on the hours you spent on your phone when you could’ve used that time to complete your homework that’s due in an hour! Being productive can actually energize you and keep you organized. Being productive doesn’t necessarily mean doing your work nonstop. Taking breaks is important too. Productivity mainly means working efficiently and strategically. This can lead to better results, less stress, and even more time to rest! Being productive will make it much easier to achieve your goals
Preventing or steering away from procrastination is extremely difficult. However, this should not stop you from trying to do better. To avoid procrastination, you can break your process down into small goals. First, write down your tasks and their due dates to create a simple schedule or to-do list. This allows you to plan out your days to make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself with activities. You could also remove any distractions, such as your phone, or avoid loud environments. There are many study skills, such as the Pomodoro method, that can keep you from losing focus while working. Everyone has their own preferences that could help them stay productive. Sometimes you just need to keep experimenting to find what works best for you.
Don’t wait until the last minute to complete your homework or other assignments in the morning or during a quiet study. Make sure to use your time wisely so you can perform as efficiently as possible!
