Seven makerspace interns in Grades 4 - 6 attended the Clean Water Summit in Burlington Vermont as the Keynote presenters. In December of 2022, this group of students had worked together to develop an inquiry project about our local community. Students wanted to investigate the closure of St Albans Bay during the summer and ways that we might protect Lake Champlain. As a group they decided to use makerspace tools to create an informational campaign that would encourage people in our school community and beyond to care for and protect the Lake. Working as individuals or in groups the students created different methods--from t-shirts to a website--to share their learning. The culmination of their investment in this topic resulted in St Albans City School being asked to share our learning in front of 200 students from nine middle and high schools in Vermont and New York.
