Always keep in mind that any images, text messages, statuses, or posts that you share with your friends (even if it is on your "private story") comes with a risk of being shown to other people. Once you have shared it with the internet, it makes it highly difficult to take it back. People may have screenshot it, shared it, or servers are still making it accessible even after you have deleted it. These images, memes, videos that you post or share online give people an "idea of who you are or may be" as a person. Sometimes what we think is funny, cool or will give us plenty of likes, in reality, could be inappropriate or not the person we truly are.
The INTERNET is FOREVER!
Everything you post online can NEVER be erased.
Others can EASILY share what you post online… even if you don’t want them to!
*Remember* DO practice safe internet behaviors.
- DO NOT post private information online (PRIVATE means things like your address, phone number, information about money or bank account, social security number, naked pictures, and other things people can use to find you and hurt you).
- DO NOT post pictures of yourself without clothes online.
- DO NOT expect others to keep your information safe.
- DO NOT share others’ information without their permission.
Excessive cell phone use among teens is so common that 33 percent of 13-year-olds never turn off their phone, day or night. And the younger a teen acquires a phone, the more likely they are to develop problematic use patterns.
Research has shown that people who overuse cell phones may experience:
anxiety
depression
sleep deficits and insomnia
