Fifth Grade Music

All Anna Mac students are exploring the history of American Pop music in the Third Trimester.

5th graders are focusing on the history of Hip Hop on the website teachrock.org, and using the GarageBand app on their iPads to create beats and loops, that we will turn into full songs.

Illinois Music Educator's Association Elementary General Music Festival 2024!

4th and 5th grade Anna McDonald students have a chance to participate in an awesome event on April 13th at Liberty Junior High in New Lenox.

Ten students will be selected to sing, play instruments, and move to music at this year's Elementary General Music Festival.

Contact Mrs. Miller-Amato for more information!

Musical Theatre

Starting in January, 5th graders will begin learning about Musical Theatre in music class.

I've chosen "Matilda" as our focus show. We'll be watching performances from Broadway, learning the song "When I Grow Up", doing some movement to the songs, and even making up our own musical scene, using a song of their choosing.

Bonus Points!!!

Watch any movie musical. Take a piece of paper and write down the name of a few of the songs. Also, write why the characters sang it. Bring it back to Mrs. Miller-Amato before March 1st, and get 5 bonus points!

New Ukulele Club!

5th graders are welcome to join us on Fridays before school for "ukulele club", just for fun! That's Friday mornings from 8:00 - 8:20.

Ukuleles

The 5th graders spend a lot of time playing ukuleles. We work from October through December on the "Rainbow Ukulele" program, working through one leveled song at a time. This unit focuses on: learning about string instruments, feeling a steady beat while strumming, listening or singing to a melody and staying in sync, harmony, and fine motor skill development.

Music Play Online

We have had some fun exploring this website recently, and I wanted students to be able to use it at home as well. Follow the prompts in the image below to access this great educational website!

We Love music!

Class Playlists

Our first music class project will be to make a class playlist. We'll make a poster collage of all of the music we like: songs, performers, genres, instruments, etc... Then, Mrs. Miller-Amato will make a Spotify playlist with all the music we love. We'll even get to name our playlist whatever we want. Links to our playlists will be added soon!

Beat & Rhythm

Students learned the definitions of beat (the steady pulse of the music) and rhythm (the arrangement of sounds and silences in a song).  Quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, and quarter rests were covered.  We used rhythm sticks, drums, and body percussion to keep the beat and create rhythms.
