Home Activities
Home time is a time when you can be with your family and share what you are learning at school. Below are ideas for activities to help you at home.
Read as often as possible. This can be done after school or if your child is tired after a busy day at school or involved in other activities, in the morning before school.
You can also try reading to them or read a page each. Make it as fun as possible. Praise all attempts that your child makes.
Have a look at the website http://nzmaths.co.nz/families for some great ideas to support maths learning. Some easy ideas include: Counting the number of knives and forks at the table or read the prices and the cost of items at the supermarket.
Play games that are based on numbers such as Battleships, Snap, Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly.
When cooking dinner or preparing food ask your child to halve and quarter fruit or sandwiches, measure ingredients or share food equally.
