5th Grade

Here are the new links for some on-line learner activities from "Essential Elements - Music Class Interactive" to do at home:

Coming soon! - posted 1/15/21

Session 1 - Sixteenth Notes at play - posted 2/5/21: See the large rhythm chart below -

Remember to count quarter notes as Ta (one sound on the beat), two eighth notes as Ti-ti (two equal sounds on the beat), and our newest, four sixteenth notes as Ti-ki-ti-ki (four equal sounds on the beat)

Listening Map - Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" - posted 2/22/21 - To celebrate Black History Month watch and listen to this listening map by Scott Joplin one of the best composers of Ragtime music!

Irish Dance - "Rakes of Mallow" - posted 4/8/21 - common instruments you'll hear in Irish music are violins, tin-whistles or flutes, guitar, button accordions, harps, and more. What do you hear in this song? Also, when you're watching the video, it states the beats below the dancers with the following code | = play one beat (like what we call ta), Z= rest for one beat (like our rest); so | | | Z, would mean ta, ta, ta, rest.

"When She Loved Me" from "Toy Story" full song with lyrics to follow along - posted 5/12/21

Students and Parents please note: Some of the activities in these sessions may be more in-depth than you care to take on. Please just do what you can, but the resources are here if you wish to explore the richness available. The basic navigation through the lessons is in the upper right corner of the page like this:

Use the arrows to navigate forward and backward through the lesson steps. Click the open book icon to see detailed lesson plan steps/ideas. Click the rectangle to view full screen.

Recorder Activities:

Please note: The "Step Back Baby" video was intended for last spring's 4th graders who had experience with recorders. So that is our current 5th graders, and if you still have your recorder at home, give it a try!

4th Grade RECORDER TUNE#1: Step Back Baby

Check out the tune here for a fun, 3-note song that you can play on your recorder. If you need some reminders about how to play your recorder check out my videos that I posted on the 4th Grade tab. Have fun! Let me know what you think. Feel free to email me!
