Madison Area Jail Ministry
a ministry of presence
Madison Area Jail Ministry (MAJM) has been providing spiritual care to incarcerated men and women for 50 years. Approximately 750-800 men and 80-100 women are held each day in the Dane County Jail. Each person comes to the jail with unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. MAJM provides spiritual care through the work of our chaplains and a network of clergy and volunteers from the entire spectrum of faith traditions.
The Dane County Jail is required by law to provide physical and mental health supports, however there is no law requiring jails in the United States to provide spiritual care. There would not be a ministry without the partnership of the Dane County Sheriff's Department, which provides office space, a computer, and a higher level of security to our chaplains, and works cooperatively with MAJM as active members of the advisory board.
Madison Area Jail Ministry is fully funded through the generosity of numerous area congregations, individuals and charitable organizations.
Thank you for your support of Madison Area Jail Ministry!
