Escalations in MAD

At MAD, you have access. You have access to wonderful support systems like your Fellows, Strategists and Directors who you can reach out to for anything. It is important to realize that a lot of you are doing this for the first time. So the best thing to do is to ask people for help. In order to create a safe, unbiased and fair spaces for volunteers, we have Escalations in MAD. Always remember that MAD is a safe space for everyone and everyone deserves to be treated fairly. This page helps you understand whom to reach out to when you have any challenges or need support with anything.

Here's what you can do if you feel that you are not being treated fairly or if you feel uncomfortable because of anyone at Make A Difference. You can escalate the issue to your Vertical Fellow or the HC Fellow or the CTL of your city. If you feel that the issue is not resolved or alternately if you feel that the challenge is from one of the Fellows in your city, you can escalate the issue to the HC Director or your vertical Director. You can find their details in the homepage of the Volunteer HQ. Here are examples of challenges that you can escalate-

  • Sexual harassment- Make A Difference has Zero Tolerance towards harassment
  • Bullying or being made fun of
  • Being treated unfairly or if someone is showing any biases

Here's what you can do if you need any support with your vertical related tasks. You can escalate the issue to your Vertical Fellow or the Ed Support Mentor (If you are an Ed Support ASV) If you feel that the issue is not resolved you can escalate the issue to one of the Strategists or Directors of your vertical team. You can find their details in the homepage of the Volunteer HQ. Here are examples of challenges that you can escalate-

  • Not sure how to explain something to the child/youth (From your lesson plan)
  • Queries about fundraising
  • Queries about vertical processes like credits/participation


Here's what you can do if you need any support because of the children that you work with . You can escalate the issue to the Shelter Support Fellow who is the Child Protection POC in your city. If you feel that the issue is not resolved you can escalate the issue to one of the Directors of the Shelter team. You can find their details in the homepage of the Volunteer HQ. Here are examples of challenges that you can escalate-

  • Disclosure- When a child shares something sensitive with you
  • Inappropriate child behaviour towards you or anyone else


Here's what you can do if you face any challenges at the shelter. You can escalate the issue to the Mentor/Vertical Fellow or the Shelter Support Fellow your city. If you feel that the issue is not resolved you can escalate the issue to one of the Directors of the Shelter team. You can find their details in the homepage of the Volunteer HQ. Here are examples of challenges that you can escalate-

  • Inappropriate behaviour towards children by anyone at the shelter
  • Inappropriate behaviour towards you or anyone else
  • Any incident at the shelter that made you feel uncomfortable
  • If the shelter authority/warden shares any information with you. (It is important to keep the Shelter Support Fellow in the loop so please pass on the information to them)
