About

About me and my class....

Hello to all,

My name is Mr. Doak, and I teach the Humanities at Maine Ocean School.

My teaching philosophy centers around just a few basic concepts:

1) Students will learn how to learn, so well after they leave they can continue to question, research and grow. "Teach a man (he/she/they) to fish..." amirite? Always be a student.

2) Students will think for themselves. Don't just take my word for it, research it for yourself! But please use facts...

3) Relate to the content and explore the topic as it relates to you. Find real life parallels, topics of interest, or anything about a topic that can engage you. Why be bored learning?

And

4) Collaborate and be professional. Throughout life you will have to interact with others from many backgrounds and different experiences. Be humble. Add your experiences and allow others to share theirs.

Yeah nothing specific about ELA , History or other Humanities topics, but with these skills and traits, our kiddos can accomplish just about anything they set out to.

Here is to a fun and engaging 2020 school year!

Regards,

Andrew Doak
