KV Sr. Band Percussion Auditions 2025-2026

Percussion students can sign up for either a mallet audition, or a snare/timpani audition.  They also have the option of signing up for both as separate auditions. Each audition will be $5.00.

Mallet Auditions:

• Students should prepare the Vibraphone part from the Maine All-State Lyrical Etude B: Vocalise

  • Note: this can also be prepared on Marimba or Xylophone if a Vibraphone is unavailable

• Scales should be done as they appear on the scale sheet with alternating sticking

Snare/Timpani Auditions:

• Students should prepare the Snare Drum/Timpani Audition Etude: Rotation B (Vocalise)

  • Note: This part can be rehearsed with the Maine All-State Lyrical Etude B

• Rudiments:

  • Students should prepare the following rudiments on Snare Drum

  • These should be performed open (slow) to close (fast) to open (slow).

    • 5-stroke roll

    • Single Paradiddle

    • Flam

    • Flam Tap

    • Single Ratamacue

    • Long Roll
