SESSION:

Dying To Be Free: Conversations with inmates caring for friends as they end their days in the prison hospice program.

About this session

Session Host: Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition, Maine Inside Out, Maine Prisoner Re-Entry Network, Maine Youth Justice

Time: 1:00pm

Format: Panel with Q + A

Speakers: Jon Courtney, Bobby Payzant, Jan Collins, and Joseph Jackson

Description: Mass incarceration was one of the unfortunate results of the backlash against the civil rights movement. It not only led to more people of color being incarcerated, but also to longer sentences and more people entering old age and dying in prison.

Martin Luther King was a voice for those who had been silenced by society. We are honoring his legacy by giving voice to the people who many would rather forget.
