Jared Donisvitch '12

Jared Donisvitch graduated from USM in 2012 with a degree in Geography-Anthropology with a certificate in applied GIS. Before graduating, he pursued an internship opportunity in the Greater Portland area, provided by a mentor at the university. The internship grew into a full-time GIS Analyst position. In the 4 plus years working professionally in the field of Geography, his work evolved from primarily paper maps to almost exclusively digital and web-based mediums. In this time, he greatly enjoyed how open source technology was able to make geographic information more transparent and readily available to the public. As GIS technology continued to grow and merge with web and software development, he subsequently learned more about being a product owner and software engineer. His time in the field of Geography led to some amazing projects consulting for a plethora of companies and non-profit organizations. In 2014, Jared shifted gears from primarily data and cartography, to start working at Big Room Studios as a Software Engineer. He continued there until 2021 and has since moved on to working for larger enterprise clients building software. He enjoys spending time with his family, the Maine summers on lakes and oceans, playing, writing, and listening to music.
