Fabiola Ortiz '11

Fabiola (2011) is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico and holds a B.A. in Georgraphy- Anthropology from the University of Southern Maine, a M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Syracuse University, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology from Syracuse University. Fabiola is based in Syracuse, where she coordinates the advocacy efforts of the NYIC's members and partner organizations in CNY around issues of deportation, workers' rights, access to services, etc. Fabiola worked as an organizer in her home country supporting the work of Zapatista communities in Chiapas. Fabiola has worked with migrant farmworkers in the U.S. since 2009, first as a health case manager and researcher in the egg, dairy, and blueberry industries in Maine, and then as a researcher and labor organizer with dairy workers in New York. She has also participated and led research projects with different immigrant communities across the country.
