Anthony Viola '17

Anthony J. Viola graduated from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine (USM) in the Spring Semester of 2017 with a Bachelors of Arts in Geography-Anthropology, Minor in Archaeology, and Certificate in Applied Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

After graduating from USM, he went to work for Independent Archaeological Consulting (IAC), LLC in Portsmouth, New Hampshire as an Archaeological Technician. Within his first year he was promoted to Archaeological Supervisor and then took on the additional position of Geospatial Specialist.

While working at IAC, Anthony began to develop his own start-up company called Arcudigm (arc-a-dime), LLC (January 2018) which is a multifaceted geospatial data collection and analysis firm. The business specializes in the integration of aerial mapping using unmanned aerial systems (UAS, or drone) and analysis with geographic information systems (GIS) software. The company recently applied and received a Libra Future Fund (LFF) grant and has also gained several contracts for private and commercial projects for 2018 and 2019.

When not working for IAC or Arcudigm, Anthony is helping to establish a non-profit called Konbit for Sustainable Development (KSD), which aims to facilitate environmental planning by educating and empowering Haitian communities to tackle environmental problems through sustainable actions. He also volunteers as a student adviser for the Ci2 Laboratory on USM's Portland campus where he is helping to design a program to assist students and recently graduated alumni.

Anthony also works with Karen Wilson, PhD and Samuel Roy, PhD on a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant looking at geospatial analysis of Maine’s waterways as they relate to the maintenance or removal of dams and the environmental implications they'll have.
