Welcome artists and families!

I am excited to be part of your school experience this year! With ten years of

teaching experience, an undergraduate degree in art education from Edinboro

University, and a master’s of Art Education from the Ohio State University, you are

in good hands.


Syllabus

  • Class Rules
    • Treat people and supplies with respect.
    • Follow directions the first time.
    • Leave the room better than you found it

  • Grading
    • Points as outlined in the handbook
      • 90-100 A
      • 80-90 B
      • 70-80 C
      • 60-70 D
    • Students will be guided through what is expected in each project.
    • Points may be given for projects, notes, writing prompts, and tasks such as washing your brushes
    • Larger projects fall in the 50-100 point range
    • Each project is typically broken into individual 3-10 point criteria. All criteria are visible on powerteacher
      • Students and families can see exactly what points were earned, or lost, on each task within a project

  • Projects
    • Students will create the projects divided by grade level below
    • Slight changes may occur for reasons such as requests for community involvement, reduction of studio time for reasons such as testing, student needs, and/or new knowledge gained from training.

5th Grade Projects

Nine week course

  • A portrait in marker
  • An animal repetition project in crayons, colored pencil, and marker
  • A clay project
  • A paper mask
  • Several smaller projects that combine into a culminating final project
    • A value painting
    • A watercolor painting
    • A weaving
    • A haiku

6th Grade Projects

Eighteen week course

  • A perspective dream room drawing in colored pencil
  • A watercolor value painting based on the artist Wayne Thiebaud
  • A proportion and blending oil pastel project
  • A shadow puppet inspired by traditional shadow puppets of India
  • An investigation of an enduring idea through printmaking
  • A concentric paper design project
  • A felt animal sculpture
  • A clay animal vessel

8th Grade 2DProjects

Nine week course

(preceded or followed by nine weeks of 3D art with Ms. Gunn)

  • Gesture drawings
  • A pen and ink nature drawing
  • A mandala/kaleidoscope inspired painting
  • A printmaking project
  • A marker zentangle
