This week, you will learn about the third Dimension of Belonging: “Welcomed.” When you walk into school, a group of peers, or a classroom, there are factors that should make you feel welcomed. Do others physically make a space for you to join in their group? Do teachers greet you? Do others light up when they see you? Hopefully you are able to answer “yes” to all of these questions! Too often, however, students with disabilities don’t experience a genuine feeling of being welcomed. As a peer, you have the ability to make others feel like they belong through simple acts that promote a welcoming environment.
