This week, you will learn about the second Dimension of Belonging: “Invited.” You can probably come up with a few examples from your life where you have been invited or left out. Maybe you were invited to your best friend’s birthday party and you had a blast! Perhaps someone you thought was a friend invited all of your friends to go to the movies together… except you. How do these different types of experiences feel? Many people with disabilities are not invited to join in activities as often as their peers. This can contribute to a poor sense of belonging. As friends, a simple step towards building belonging at our school is by making sure our friends with disabilities are invited. Be sure to check out the video this week which tells the story of a high school club that was formed to ensure no one eats lunch alone.
