About 6 weeks ago I was thinking that I have not much to learn as I did take many online trainings and learned different methods.
After completing the course I found out that I still need to implement more tools especially more humanized methods, such as video comments and breaf videos so my students can feel my presence and be more connected to the class.
I am going to implement more short videos and video comments in my online classes.
The Liquid Syllabus is an introductory webpage where students can get nice overview of the course and learn about first things before semester starts. It prepares them to class structures and instructor's expectations.
I choose this image as it shows the complexity of brain and how it can be activated in different parts at the same time. I want students to be interested in digging into brain function and explore it.
My goal is to give students as structures and informative page as possible. I have all important links and information that they need: how to get started, how to get to first week page and know that they are going to do, as well as learn how they can contact me. I hope they will feel welcomed and will look forward to starting the class.
I have this survey, in orer to get to know my students needs, as weel as if there is something that would interfier to their success in my class.
I as well need to know abot their expectations, backgraunds and interests, to adjust my course content accordingly.
I like using Ice braker, as students not only get more relaxed, but as well they get to know each other. They as well learn about their instructor interests and some of them connect to my interests. They not only share about themselves, but as well learn about their pears and connect with them.
In general use of ice Breakers is nice beginning of semester and fun way to start your class. Students as well as open up and feel more heard and seen, which adds humanizing component to the online classes.
I decided to share with students information on higher brain processing and artificial intelligence. The neuroscience field is becoming more and more involved in all the natural scientific aspects and because of lots of available data about our complex brain physiology it is getting more demanding research direction.
Technological development as well as heavy data managing bring as to artificial brain development, which is far from what actual brain does, so it gives students idea that brain is more complex than they have anticipated and needs much heavy technology and data analyses development algorithms to encode its activity.
My microlecture is on Action potential. I decided to choose this topic, as students have usually hard time to get the concept and having short video explaining the process and idea will be very helpful. I learned that in online classes having shorter videos do help students review whole material and be engaged with it.
The learning objective is: how action potential works and what are its steps.
