Welcome to my AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC class! Calculus is not a spectator sport. You must do problems and build understanding to be successful. You have to be able to reason through problems and think for yourself. Do not try to memorize the material. You must understand and apply your knowledge of the material to be successful in the class.
"The mathematician does not study pure mathematics because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it and he delights in it because it is beautiful." ~Georg Cantor
"It's not that I'm so smart; it's just that I stay with problems longer." ~Albert Einstein
What to do when you are struggling in the class?
Option 1: Make sure after the lesson that you are taking advantage of asking me for help. Please come up to my desk and ask questions. It may appear as though I'm busy, but I'm never too busy to answer a question.
Option 2: Ask questions by sending me a message. We linked your text messaging to Remind101. You can reply to that message with any questions you might have. You can also send me images of the problems you are working on.
Only after trying both options, will we set up a time outside of class to meet. In this situation, I will have students who are struggling with the similar topic come in at the same time to get help. You must use time wisely in class to ask questions in order for this to become an option. This will not be an option if you are not asking questions during class time.
What should parents/guardians do when your child is struggling in the class?
Please encourage your child to ask questions during class. Please encourage your child to come and talk to me about their struggles with the class.
Please contact me first. I'm happy to set up a parent/guardian meeting if you are concerned about your child's progress.
