Prof. Sim has held significant editorial and advisory roles in prominent IEEE publications and organizations. He served as the Associate Editor of IEEE Access from August 2016 to January 2021. Presently, he continues to contribute his expertise as the Associate Editor for IEEE AWPL, IEEE Journal of RFID, and the International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering. Since October 2016, Prof. Sim has been an esteemed technical consultant for SAG (Securitag Assembly Group), one of Taiwan's leading RFID tag manufacturers. Additionally, he has served as a consultant for Avary, the largest PCB manufacturer in mainland China, since August 2018. His dedication to academic and research excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards. Prof. Sim received the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Outstanding Reviewer Award for IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation for eight consecutive years, from 2014 to 2021. Furthermore, he earned the Outstanding Associate Editor Award from the IEEE Antennas Wireless and Propagation Letters in July 2018, further highlighting his commitment to advancing the fields of antennas and propagation. Prof. Sim currently holds the position of Distinguished Lecturer at IEEE AP-Society, serving from 2024 to 2026. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow (Class of 2025) on December 4, 2024.
CHOW-YEN-DESMOND SIM born in Singapore in 1971, holds a distinguished academic and research background. He earned his B.Sc. degree from the Engineering Department at the University of Leicester, U.K., in 1998, followed by a Ph.D. degree from the Radio System Group within the same department in 2003. From 2003 to 2007, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer and Communication Engineering at Chienkuo Technology University in Changhua, Taiwan. In 2007, he embarked on a journey at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Feng Chia University (FCU), Taichung, Taiwan, as an Associate Professor. Over the years, his dedication and contributions led to his promotion to the rank of Full Professor in 2012 and further recognition as a Distinguished Professor in 2017 and Chair Professor in 2025/02. On 1st Aug 2025, Professor Sim joined the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Sun Yat-sen University.
Prof. Sim's impressive research portfolio includes authoring or co-authoring over 220 SCI papers. His current research focuses on diverse areas such as 5G/6G antenna design, VHF/UHF tropospheric propagation, and RFID applications. His contributions have earned him recognition as a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (FIET), a Fellow of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE Fellow), a Fellow of Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), a Life Fellow of WAMS-Society, and a Life Member of the IAET (Taiwan).
Prof. Sim has made substantial contributions to the international academic community through his extensive roles and responsibilities. He has served as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) Member, TPC Sub-Committee Chair, TPC Chair, and Track Chair at numerous international conferences. His commitment to the field culminated in his role as General Co-Chair of ISAP 2021. Prof. Sim's expertise is highly sought after, earning him invitations as a Workshop/Tutorial Speaker and Distinguished Lecturer at various conferences. He has also had the honor of delivering keynote speeches at IEEE SOLI 2018, ISAP 2024, and WAMS 2025.
Within the IEEE community, Prof. Sim has held leadership positions, serving as the Chapter Chair of the IEEE AP-Society, Taipei Chapter, from January 2016 to December 2017. Additionally, he is the founding Chapter Chair of the IEEE Council of RFID, Taipei Chapter, from October 2017 to December 2020, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field of antenna engineering and its related disciplines. He serves as an IEEE AP-S Distinguished Lecturer (2024–2026) and has delivered numerous DL talks in India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea.
