Hydroponics

April 15th Update

1.) Taking rocks from the bucket (we are almost done with that)

2.) We called Nearly Native for advice on what plants to use next to the pond ( they didn't answer us but they contacted us later).

On May 6, we attempted to build a system called the 'wick system'. This system was basically water based, so instead of soil, the plants would grow with nutrient water, with rocks in it!

After analyzing the state of the original hydroponics system, we decided that it would be best to replace it with a more efficient system called the wick system. The system will basically have the plants sitting in large containers where their roots will extend into the water. This system is more sustainable than the old system. the old system was hard to keep clean and seemed to be in constant need of repairs or maintenance. This new system is more cost-efficient and is easy to make, so we can have lots of plants in the area. The new system is also a good way to recycle old containers for a new purpose.

This is the video made in collaboration with the pond group, showing the progress that was made when working on hydroponics system together. Here you can find the benefits of what we are doing with the pond and hydroponics system, and all of the changes that we have made to the area around the pond.

Here you can find the link to the Hydroponics Photo Album, where we have stored some of the photos from our process. You can slo find some photos of our wick system here!
