DPS Fall Learning Conference
The DPS Fall Learning Conference took place this week virtually via Whova and face-to-face at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research and GWHS. The conference brought together Danville's best classroom teachers, school-based specialists, school leaders and district leaders. Sessions focused on literacy, data analysis, lesson planning, instructional alignment, engagement strategies, textbook instructional resources, Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL) and more!
Marching Eagles compete in Lynchburg Classic
This past weekend, the Marching Eagles traveled to the Lynchburg Classic where they placed third out of five in AAA competition, and won first place General Effect, second place percussion, and second place color guard.
Flu vaccinations at the School Board Office
A Walgreens representative will be on site in the Danville Room at the School Board Office, 341 Main Street, on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. to give flu shots to any interested employees. Please bring the Walgreens form (which was emailed to all employees last week), as well as a copy of your insurance card (front and back) and your drivers license.

On Oct. 8, GWHS crowned their 2021 Homecoming Court in a coronation ceremony.

Substitute orientation held
Mrs. Mona Whittle, Director of Teacher Talent Acquisition and Engagement, and several members of the Human Resources team conducted Substitute Orientation on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Seventeen prospective candidates attended the session and learned about requirements and expectations. Billy Chaney, the Director of Safety and Security, also led the group in a discussion about safety protocols and precautions. The two informational sessions were followed by on-site interviews with HR team members. Virtual Learning Practice Day on Oct. 25
In preparation for unexpected virtual learning instances and to ensure all students are prepared for them, DPS is instituting a district-wide virtual learning practice day on October 25, 2021. Face-to-face students will still report to their school sites, but they will be practicing on their Chromebooks, so parents should make sure students come prepared. During this practice day, teachers will review virtual learning expectations, Canvas, Google Meet, submitting assignments, and more. Schoolfield surprise faculty fish fry
After two full days of professional learning, Schoolfield teachers and staff were surprised by the Schoolfield administration with a delicious lunch of fried fish, chicken, pasta salad, and baked beans! We appreciate the dedication and hard work our teachers put forth each day to support teaching and learning!

Family data talks at Schoolfield
Schoolfield families participated in virtual and in-person data conferences with their child’s teachers to learn more about how parents can have a positive impact on improving their child’s academic performance. This year, our school wide theme is “One Team, Working Together,” and Schoolfield is looking forward to growing our young learners!
Time to break out the turkey costumes and strap on your running shoes! Registration is only $20 until November 1st. The Danville Public Schools Education Foundation, in partnership with the Danville Otterbots and the Danville Running & Fitness Club, is having its inaugural Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk and Children's Fun Run on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25th! The event will start and end at American Legion Field, the home of the Danville Otterbots.
All proceeds go toward programs, initiatives, and scholarships for DPS students.
Times: Children's Fun Run - 8:30am; 5K Run/Walk - 9:00am
Course: The entire race will be along the beautiful Dan River on the Riverwalk Trail.
Entry Fee: Children's Fun Run (12 and under) - free
5K Run/Walk - $20 until Nov. 1; $25 from Nov. 2-15; $30 after November 15; $35 on race-day. All area students 18 and under ($10, $15 on race day)
