George Washington High Schools took to the streets of Richmond, VA to visit the Capitol Building, the University of Richmond, and VCU. The students learned about the great opportunities available to them if they choose to attend one of these colleges. The Gibson faculty and staff picked their teacher and staff member of the month for October. Congratulations to Mrs. Masi (K-2 Sped teacher) and Nurse Horne. It is a well deserved recognition for all your hard work.
GW's dental students along with the Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aid II students went to the HOSA Fall Leadership Academy on Tuesday, October 1, at Roanoke Baptist Church. The keynote speaker was Victoria Rosenberg, a mental health therapist, who talked with them about how to reduce stress in their lives. The students learned about parliamentary procedure for meetings conducted for HOSA. They had the installation of officers for the HOSA chapters. They also attended 3 different 25 minute workshops. Lunch was provided by Chick-Fil-A before returning back to school.

ACEC is excited about their our most recent GED Graduates. Shamoria Redriquez was one of the teen students. She worked hard completing all the components of the teen program. She is very excited about her future. She has so many more options with a GED credential.
Grace Hudgins was an adult student. She moved through the program very quickly. Her credential will allow her to obtain employment in California in data processing. We wish Grace safe travels and success in her new career.
Our third GED Graduate was also a teen student and preferred not to be named.
If you would like to improve your options for college or a career, come visit us at 141 Goode Street or call Mary Dumont at 434.799.6471.
HR Boot Camp was held this week for school division administrators and focused on HR functions our school leaders need now. At the end of Boot Camp, the class made meaningful comments about what Boot Camp has to do with a school's accreditation. Here is one of my favorites:
HR functions are the root of instruction where outcomes are determined every day, in every classroom, child by child.
Kudos to our HR Team, led by Dr. Juliet Jennings, Mrs. Mona Whittle, and Mrs. Coretta Lipscomb and a great staff of individuals who work 24/7 to recruit and train our staff!
