Westwood's Team Pirhana Engages in PBIS Positivity Takeover!

On Friday, October 19, 2018, Team Pirhana had a PBIS Positivity Takeover. The students wrote words of encouragement on sticky notes to place on lockers. They chose to extend this kindness all over the building, taking notes to office staff, custodians, teachers, lockers on other hallways, and other parts of the building. We are so proud of Westwood’s Team Piranha!

New Spaghetti Recipe a Hit at Grove Park

When students at Grove Park weren't eating the spaghetti, Phillip Gardener, the Director of Child Nutrition, stepped up his game. Phillip changed the recipe and helped Debbie Parsons, the cafeteria manager at Grove Park, make the spaghetti that would be served for lunch.

Pictured below is the onion cutting lesson that Phillip provided to Debbie and a picture of the final product.

There have been rave reviews on the yummy spaghetti and as you may or may not know, 4 year olds can be tough critics.

Phillip, you may want to provide us all with lessons on how not to cry when cutting an onion and feel free to share the recipe!

The Adult & Career Education Center (ACEC) is a Full Service Center

Pictured below on the left is Marvin Jeffries and his teacher Mary Dumont. Mr. Jeffries frantically came to Adult Ed a few weeks ago because he had been offered, as he stated, the job of his lifetime. The catch was he needed his GED within a week. Marvin still had the math and reading sections of the GED to complete. ACEC worked with him in overtime mode, and he passed math within a few days. He now had a few days left to prepare for the reading, but little did he know that Hurricane Michael would disrupt the Person Vue testing schedule. His teacher, Ms. Dumont, called his potential employer, explained the predicament, and they extended Marvin's deadline. The testing specialist, Crystal Echols, provided him a private test session on Monday morning. Good news is Marvin passed his final test and earned his GED certificate. Marvin now has a career with health insurance and benefits. If you know someone that needs workforce skills and/or a GED, send them to ACEC. Congratulations to Mary and Crystal for going above and beyond!

Also, click here or on the video below on the right to view the Star News commercial about all the ACEC has to offer in regard to furthering your education and creating pathways to employment! Hear from both instructors and program participants as to why ACEC is the place to be!
