On Monday, September 24, 2018, 1:1 Chromebook deployment began at Bonner Middle School for all sixth through eighth graders. Pictured below are students using their Chromebooks during classroom instruction. On Monday, October 1, 2018, deployment to all sixth through eighth-grade students began at Westwood Middle School. By Friday, October 12, 2018, both middle schools will have over 1,000 Chromebooks deployed to the students!
Schoolfield Elementary held its fifth “Take-It-To-The-Streets” celebration on Tuesday, October 2nd, from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm. Administrators and teachers visited with the students and parents at Cardinal Village. Time was spent talking about the school’s expectations and the importance of parents helping their children with reading and math skills. Everyone was treated to pizza and juice and a free book to keep.
The SOVA Career Choice: Youth Expo introduced 4,000 area students to the many career opportunities available to them in our region. On Friday, October 5, 2018, GWHS was selected by WDBJ 7 as the football team of the week. GW's cheerleaders, band, football team, and members from the Health Careers Academy were on site at 5:30 am for live cut-ins starting at 6:00 am. Additional segments also aired that day during their 4:00 pm news and during Friday Football Extra at 11:30 pm. GO EAGLES!

The River District Association (RDA) is excited to announce that DANVILLE, VA has been selected as one of 20 cities to be featured in the national Partners in Preservation campaign! The RDA's project and theme is Fight 4 North Union Street, and we need YOU to get in the ring and help them fight for $150,000 in preservation funding to assist in the revitalization efforts of two storefronts on North Union street, which is located downtown just 3 blocks from the Central Office. About North Union Street - From the early 1900s through the Civil Rights Movement and beyond, Union Street was first a thriving tobacco warehouse district, and then a mecca for black businesses and entrepreneurship. This project will restore two storefronts to foster continued entrepreneurship and create space for celebrating the area’s civil rights history. The Summer Sensory Friendly Nights were such a success that the series is being continued into the fall! Come join in for an evening of fun at the Danville Science Center as they partner with the Hughes Center to offer sensory friendly activities and a special showing of some of our most popular films in the Digital Dome Theater.

The 11th Annual Crop Walk was held on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The Crop Walk raises funds to help end hunger and extreme poverty here in Danville and around the world. The GW Eagles Football players volunteered to help work the walking route for the crop walk walkers.
Mr. Robert Wooding, Chairman of Crop Walk for Danville, and his wife made a donation to the GW Eagles Football Fan Club to assist in the feeding of players in appreciation of the players that volunteered. Please congratulate these young men for their hard work and dedication to GW and to the community!
