At Grove Park, books & literacy are an important part of every child’s learning.
Danville Public Schools (DPS) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are partnering to expand Food Truck services to provide healthy after school meals in select neighborhoods. All children under the age of 18, regardless if they attend DPS or not, eat free of charge. Adults can purchase the same meals at a discounted price of $3.65.
“The Food Truck served over 6,000 meals during the months of June and July as part of our Summer Feeding Program,” stated Phillip Gardner, Director of Child Nutrition for DPS. “The partnership with the USDA allows us to expand this opportunity and capture children for dinner as well. DPS has been serving after school meals at select schools for some time now, but the addition of the Food Truck removes transportation barriers so that all children have equal access to a healthy meal. It is quite simply the right thing to do!”

The GWHS Marching Eagles recently traveled to VA Beach to compete in the Kecoughtan High School Warrior Classic Band Competition. The band placed 2nd in class AAA, also winning best Color Guard. They also celebrated the end of the competitive marching season with a Gala Dinner. The students dressed up in their red carpet best and had a 3 course meal with full service, a magician, and a little bit of a dance party.
Band Director Cody Kesling said the kids were were amazing! The hotel staff, bus drivers, and everyone the band came in contact with was so impressed with how polite and respectful they were.
Mr. Kelsing would like to thank everyone who has helped this fall. None of this is possible without support from our school family, the help of those on staff, and the parents who are willing to give up their free time to help our children.
