GW NJROTC Drill Team earns third place at competition
From Master Chief Green: Please join me in congratulating the GW Fighting Eagles NJROTC Drill Team for their 3rd Place finish at the Tunstall 10th Annual Drill Competition, this past Saturday, March 19.
The team placed in the following areas:
Second Place Colorguard - Cadet Ta'Khayla Carter (Team Commander)
Second Place JV Unarmed Squad - Rachel Martin (Squad Commander)
Second Place Unarmed Squad - Irieasia Dickerson (Platoon Commander)
Second Place Armed Individual - Terry Daniel (Individual Commander)
We are a Navy unit competing against Army units which requires a major change in our normal style. The competition this year was also tough. We are very proud of our finish in this event. Thank you to all the teachers and Administrators that have supported us throughout our drill season.
National Honor Society holds induction and cord ceremony
The George Washington High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 36 students and presented 36 with their honor society cords in a ceremony on Tuesday, March 22. This year, the members have completed a service project each month. They partnered with Lieutenant Antonio Hodges of the Salvation Army and worked at the store. We loaded trucks with "rag bags," cleaned, organized, and put out donations in the store. They also volunteered at the Henry Street location organizing donations that are given out to children in our area. Students also helped out with Bonner's Fall Festival. The students, along with the help of some of the teachers, sent more than 100 items to the House of Hope and HAVEN of the Dan River Region.

Math Instruction at Gibson
Lots of great math learning experiences taking place on March 23 at Gibson. First graders collected data from our faculty and staff to create graphs and Kindergartners counted the correct number of objects to match the number they were given. Bulldogs Rock!

Family Night at Woodberry
As Woodberry hosted their 4th Quarter Curriculum night, several families helped perform the "Woodberry Shuffle." Part of Woodberry's Mission Statement this school year is to work in partnership with families.
C3 Resource Fair
On Tuesday, our Office for Exceptional Children's Services held their C3 (College, Career, and Community) Resource Fair at O.T. Bonner Middle School. Resources represented included the Disability Rights & Resource Center, special recreation with Danville Parks and Recreation, several colleges and community organizations, local businesses, and our own DPS resources. We thank our vendors in attendance for connecting with our students and showing what's available for them now and as they're planning their post-secondary goals!
Gibson Teacher of the Year
Kristen Schmidt, fifth grade teacher, was named Teacher of the Year at Gibson Elementary. Congratulations, Ms. Schmidt, and thank you for everything you do!
Schoolfield Jaguars’ Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Pamela Seal was voted Schoolfield Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year for the school year 2021-2022. Mrs. Seal is very deserving of this honor because of her daily hard work and dedication to all of her students and colleagues. Each day she strives to have a positive impact on everyone she comes in contact with! We are so happy to have Mrs. Seal as our “Teacher Jag” of the year!

Schoolfield March PBIS Celebration
The PBIS team at Schoolfield celebrates their students that reach a schoolwide incentive goal each month. Schoolfield students celebrated their positive behavior throughout the month of March with a Glow Party on Friday, March 25th. Students had a GREAT time. These students rock their behavior at Schoolfield each and every day!! They are Ready to Learn, Respectful to all staff and students, and Responsible. Students played basketball, danced, and enjoyed snacks and drinks! Go Jaguars!!
March PBIS DoJo Celebration at Woodberry

Schoolfield Jaguars Pie the Teachers!
Fourth grade students at Schoolfield were given the challenge to meet the goal of achieving passing scores on their third quarter benchmark assessments. Students who reached this goal for math were entered into a raffle to throw a pie in their fourth grade math teacher's face, Mrs. Dowdle. Students who score in the advanced proficiency range for their benchmarks got to celebrate by throwing a balloon at their science and social studies teacher, Mr. Chapman. Go Jaguars!! We rise to the challenge!!

Schoolfield Elementary kindergarten teacher Elisabeth Brogden and her sister Sarah are directing "Junie B Jones the Musical Jr." for Halifax County Little Theatre in South Boston. The musical comedy features Junie B's trials and tribulations of entering First Grade, making new friends, needing to get glasses, and navigating a whole new world of reading and writing. The show runs March 18-20 and 25-27 at The Prizery in South Boston. Tickets can be purchased at www.prizery.com or by calling 434-572-8339. Break a leg, Miss Brogden!
Gibson Third Quarter PBIS Incentive
On March 25, Gibson Elementary School students celebrated their third quarter PBIS incentive day! We are so proud of all of our students for demonstrating positive behaviors and increasing attendance school-wide! Students enjoyed kickball, bingo, and a dance party. The first grade team dressed up for the last day of school before spring break.
Spring Hoops Celebration at Westwood
On Thursday, March 24, 2022, Westwood Middle School participated in their Spring Hoops Celebration. Students were rewarded for their good behavior and hard work on their completion of many school assessments. As part of the Spring Hoops Celebration, students participated in grade level basketball games, as well as basketball games against GW alumni basketball players from the Danville community. GW football coach Nick Anderson also partnered with the Westwood PE teachers in organizing a basketball game between Westwood students and GW athletes. Coach Anderson and the GW athletes spoke to the students of Westwood about the importance of good grades, attendance, and long-term goals.
Gibson March Curriculum Night
Gibson’s March Curriculum Night spotlighted music, art, literacy, Irish Heritage, and health and wellness. In the featured video, fourth grade students are playing a musical selection using recorders. A huge thank you to all staff members who contributed to making this event possible.
