Art on the Lawn Exhibit

On Saturday, June 9th, from 10-4pm, Michelle Bloomer displayed the efforts of her General Art (Special Education) class from the 2017-2018 school year. The Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History supplied a tent a table for free, in exchange that Michelle lead the children's art activity. "This is the program's second year of participating in this community outreach with local artists, and it is a genuine joy and passion of mine to do so," stated Michelle. The museum maintains that as long as Michelle is willing to lead the art activity, DPS has an open invitation to continue this display in the future. Next year, Michelle hopes to sell the art on the student's behalf. Congrats - the artwork is beautiful!!!!

New Freshman Transition Program at Galileo Magnet School

In an effort to give the rising ninth-graders a jump start on the year and better prepare them for the transition from middle to high school, the Galileo team has developed a Freshman Transition Program for the 2018-19 school year. The event will kick off this summer with a camp titled All in a Day's Work: Making the Most of Your First Day where the rising junior and senior leaders will offer instruction on what it means to be a Falcon. From mini-classes on dress code and other important policies, to team building exercises that will allow students to make new friends prior to the hectic first day, the camp will immerse our new students in the Galileo culture, making their first weeks less stressful as they adapt to a new way of doing things.

The camp is set for Thursday, July 26 from 12-6pm, with lunch and a snack provided, and will feature a parent/guardian meeting following camp from 6-7pm so the whole family feels adequately informed about practices like check-in and check-out, new graduation requirements, who to reach out to when in need and so much more.

During camp and continuing into the parent meeting, Galileo will also have an Extra-Curricular Activity Fair where students and the families can see all that Galileo has to offer in addition to setting a high bar for academic achievement with clubs, sports, and service organizations.

Galileo is so excited to welcome new students this year and hopes that this program will ease nerves, promote positive behaviors and ensure the success of the Class of 2022.
