O.T. Bonner and Westwood Middle School band students participate in all district band event
The 2022 Middle School All District Band Event was held at Martinsville High School on February 18-19, 2022. In order to participate at this event the students had to audition amongst many other top band students in our district. They were selected amongst the top in their section in the Concert Band. During the two day event, the students had an opportunity to learn great music, meet fellow musicians, and learn new band literature. At the end of the event they performed a concert for their family and friends. The students enjoyed every minute of it. The Concert Band was under the direction of Mr. Brett Higginbotham. O.T. Bonner Middle School Band is under the direction of Mr. Kameron Walker and Westwood Middle School Band is under the direction of Mr. Demond McNair.

Galileo's FBLA wins big at spring competition
February 23 was incredible for Galileo's FBLA Chapter. We had SO many winners in the VA FBLA regional competition for the Longwood region. Galileo's FBLA Chapter President, Zachary Parker, Megan Nipper, Galileo's FBLA Chapter Advisor, attended Longwood University to accept the awards for Galileo Magnet High School.

Principals attend program in Roanoke
This week, DPS Principals (Logan, Bowman, Norton, Simmons, Wright-Simmons, and Torres) attend RAA (Recently Appointed Administrators) Program in Roanoke, VA. This program is taught in four cohort sessions and provides multiple, hands-on opportunities structured to hone and expand existing skills and to sharpen decision-making abilities for newly appointed school administrators. The major focus is to explore methods used to transcend challenges faced by educators working to demonstrate leadership effectiveness. The program focuses on the extension of understanding and application of actions necessary for school improvement.
DPS staff engages in safety training
This week, DPS leaders learned more about the crisis and intervention modules designed by CPI. They learned about different ways to support the overall safety, care, wellness, and security of all people involved.
Teacher Support Grants - LAST EXTENSION!
Noblis, a supercomputing company in Danville, has awarded the DPS Education Foundation $5,000 in support of teachers. Please see the attached grant application. The deadline has been extended to March 7, 2022. Up to 20 additional applications can be supported with funds that are still available. Please see the form to the right for more information.
