The Danville Public Schools Education Foundation is accepting donations for the Graduate of Distinction program.
This year, approximately 60 DPS students will be graduating with Graduate of Distinction honors. Your donation will help provide scholarships to these exceptional graduates from GW and Galileo. In a COVID-19 world, fundraising is challenging, so we appreciate your consideration. The deadline to donate is March 3rd.
This program recognizes student accomplishments in five categories: academic achievement, attendance, citizenship, community service, and participation in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Students must accumulate points in each of the five areas. Students meeting the criteria will be recognized at a special recognition program in May and receive the Graduate of Distinction Medal to be worn at graduation.
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) has named February as School Board Appreciation Month. During the month of February, DPS is showcasing our board members. Check out this video of Mr. Tyrell Payne.
Westwood is so very excited for these ladies and their awesome achievement! They had to spell 20 words within an hour while the online platform read them aloud. And these were not easy words-- assuage, chalice, trough, unprepossessing-- just to name a few. With 15 students who competed and over 40 who expressed interest, this Spelling Bee was the largest group to participate out of Hope Abernathy's five years at Westwood!
Ms. Abernathy thanks all of the teachers for encouraging their students because it really did make all the difference! Special thanks to Mrs. Horton and Ms. McCarthy who were there to step-in whenever Ms. Abernathy needed help!
