Holiday Read Alouds for the Winter Break
Several members of DPS staff have recorded "read alouds" to give students some reading options over the holiday break! Those videos have now been added to several school websites for easy access. Thank you to all involved for keeping our students engaged over the holiday break! IW Taylor Student DeAsia Hairston wanted to join in on the fun and recorded her own read aloud video, which is attached here.

Lunch with Heroes
Beginning Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Lunch with Heroes, a partnership with Danville Public Schools and the Danville Police Department will launch. Lunch with Heroes is an opportunity for Danville officers to have a meal (lunch or breakfast) and interact with our students at every school. While we currently welcome officers into the building routinely, the initiative has been formalized, including a new funding stream to pay for the meals thanks to a generous donation of the JT-Minnie Maude Charitable Trust.
Pajama and Cozy Up with a Good Book Day at Schoolfield
As a way to kick off the Danville Public School’s Reading Initiative, Passport to a Great Adventure, students and staff at Schoolfield Elementary School enjoyed a fun day of reading on Wednesday, Dec. 22. Students were encouraged to wear their pajamas and snuggle up with a good book. Teachers and students were challenged to take creative pictures “snuggled up with a good book” before the end of the school day. This was a wonderful way for students to focus on one of the greatest gifts of all-reading. Students have been encouraged to continue reading for a minimum of 15 minute a day over the holiday.

Holiday Spirit Week at Schoolfield
Students and staff at Schoolfield Elementary celebrated Holiday Spirit Week from Dec. 13 - 22, 2021. Students and staff participated in spirit week by wearing festive headgear, dressing up like a candy cane, and wearing their favorite “ugly” holiday sweater. To promote diversity and support inclusion, Schoolfield’s spirit week included multicultural holiday themes such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas. At Schoolfield Elementary, it is important to celebrate uniqueness and learn about each other in ways that are positive and uplifting.
Principal Bowman helped out in Johnson's cafeteria on Tuesday, Dec. 21, serving “greens” to students. Way to go Mr. Bowman!
Schoolfield Holiday Concert
On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the second graders at Schoolfield Elementary provided parents and friends with a wonderful holiday concert. The second grade choir was led by Mrs. Andrea Penn, music teacher. Songs included traditional holiday favorites such as Jingle Bells, Let it Snow and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The final song of the night was Lean on Me, by songwriter, Kirk Franklin. This last song reflects Schoolfield Elementary School’s theme of, One Team, Working Together.
