The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Danville Area (BGCDA) will soon be providing out-of-school programs at Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School thanks to a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the Virginia Department of Education. BGCDA will receive $181,000 the first year of funding and have the opportunity to reapply for continued support for years 2 and 3 of the three-year project. “It’s so exciting,” said Faith Stamps, BGCDA’s CEO. “This signifies a real investment in our community; more specifically, the kids and families who attend Woodrow Wilson. At the end of the day, it’s about investing in the future of the community; through a strong partnership with Danville City Schools, we can make an impact on the lives of even more youth. ” BGCDA was one of 28 grant recipients for the 2019-2020 cycle.
In partnership with Danville Public Schools, BGCDA will serve 4th and 5th graders who attend Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School. “We are both thrilled and grateful about the opportunity to bring these programs directly into Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School,” said Superintendent Stanley B. Jones. “BGCDA has a significant track record in providing services to students that are impactful in producing productive, responsible, and caring citizens.”
A special thanks to the many partners for the success of this effort - the Hughes Memorial Foundation, Danville Science Center, Danville Pittsylvania Community Services, Danville Police Department, Firefly Yoga, Danville 4-H, and the UVA Cancer Center.
