In celebration of the kickoff to the 2019-20 United Way Campaign, Phillip Gardner, the Director of Child Nutrition Services, has devised a clever and creative plan to help raise money in addition to our normal campaign. We are excited of announce the following opportunity:

When: Chef Phillip will be at your house on Sat. Feb. 8, 2020 in celebration of Valentines Day

Deadline: Raffle tickets will be on sale from Sept. 3 - 30
Drawing: Drawing via Facebook on Oct. 1 at noon
How: Cash or Check options available. Make check payable to United Way and send to Anne Moore-Sparks at the Central Office via the Pony. In the memo line please indicate your school location. Anne will then get the raffle ticket(s) to you via the Pony or you can schedule a time with Anne to stop by the School Board Office to purchase. Anne can also come to your location.

DPS kindergarten teachers, 1st grade teachers, special education teachers, reading specialists, and principals all learned small group instruction during literacy training this week at IALR. Participants were trained in developing differentiated small group plans based on PALs data to include instruction in Alphabet Knowledge, Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Word Solving Strategies, and High-Frequency Words. Thank you Beth Estill for being a phenomenal facilitator.

Teacher Workshops
Workshops can be arranged for your educational needs. From half-day to full-day programs, we have many offerings addressing the major curriculum strands in the Virginia Standards of Learning from kindergarten through grade 9.
A minimum of four weeks notice and 10 participants is required. Prices vary by program.
Can’t travel to the Science Center?
Most of our workshops can come to your school – a minimum of 12 participating teachers is required. Workshops topics are ProjectWET, ProjectWILD, Project Underground and Project Learning Tree. All of these environmentally based workshops are SOL-correlated and appropriate for teachers of all grade levels. Prices vary by program.
Virginia P. Laubinger Resource Center
Our Resource center is stocked with educator guides, lithographs, posters, computers and other materials to assist you on a variety of topics – including earth science, technology and space science.

On Tuesday, Grove Park students tasted lemons and showed their best "sour" faces. They also made a big cheers to National Lemonade Day! We even have a little cutie coloring her yellow pictures! You gotta love that kid's face in the second photo!
