The Wendell Scott Foundation is excited to announce its partnership with the USDA Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Office of Advocacy and Outreach (OAO) to create Camp Cultivation in conjunction with Virginia State University (VSU). Camp Cultivation is a completely FREE agriculture and STEM summer camp that will take place on the campus of VSU, Sunday, June 23 - Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Participants of Camp Cultivation will be exposed to innovative and fun ways to learn about careers in the fields of natural resources, conservation, agriculture and STEM. Camp Cultivation is a premier camp that will allow you to learn, grow, and lead in the areas of STEM and Agriculture, but will also engage you in a FUN, well-rounded pre-college experience.
● COMPLETELY FREE - first come, first served
● 3 day, overnight camp, paired with roommates
● Full college experience
● Transportation and meals included
● Free gear for participants of Camp Cultivation
● Special celebrity guest speaker
● Field trip to nearby farm to learn modern, hands on STEM & agriculture practices
● Cookout celebration featuring musical DJ, games and prizes
● Camp curriculum includes virtual reality, simulators and drones and will cover engineering, aerodynamics, conservation, environmental science and more
● One-on-one session with VSU admissions
Requirements for the camp are as follows:
● Student must have 2.0 or greater GPA
● Student must be a rising junior or senior

Gibson Elementary and Food Lion of West Main St. partnered together for Food Lion Family Math Night. Students and their parents visited the store and worked on real life math skills. Very creative learning environment!
Just a reminder that Galileo’s graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the GWHS Auditorium. The graduation ceremony for GWHS will take place on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the E. Stuart Grant Center at Averett University’s North Campus, located at 707 Mt. Cross Road.
Attendees at both ceremonies must have a ticket for admission. For those who cannot attend, both ceremonies will stream live on YouTube. To access the graduation ceremony on your smartphone, device, or computer, log into www.youtube.com/user/dpslive. Also, both ceremonies will air on River City TV (Comcast Channel 10 and Gamewood Channel 122) throughout the month of June.
Last Friday the Danville Police Department visited Gibson Elementary as part of their Breakfast Buddies program. The children were greeted as they walked in the door and some of them even got to eat breakfast with them in the cafeteria.
